# JOINT RELEASE
The President of the Republic of Cameroon, His Excellency Paul BIYA, today chaired the ceremony to present the Report on France's Role and Commitment in the Fight against Independence and Opposition Movements in Cameroon between 1945 and 1971.
The said presentation was made by the Franco-Cameroonian Joint Commission in the presence of a French delegation led by Mr Mohamed Soilihi Thani, Minister Delegate to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs in charge of La Francophonie and International Partnerships, and several Cameroonian authorities.
On that occasion, President Paul Biya commended the completion of the first stage of a work desired by himself and his French counterpart.
Furthermore, he commended the sense of duty, courage, self-sacrifice and free mindedness of the members of the Franco-Cameroonian Commission and the two co-chairpersons, the historian Karine Ramondi and the artiste Blick Bassy.
The purpose of this initiative of the French and Cameroonian Heads of State was to make known to their respective peoples, the tragic part of their common history, so that they should come to terms with it and build confidence in their relationship, going forward.
This work of remembrance lays a groundwork which teachers, academics and researchers may build on and propagate.
The Commission's Report will be made public after the ceremony held in Paris on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, and presided over by the French President, and that of Yaounde on Tuesday, 28 January 2025.
