Agricultural Calendar for the 2026 Cropping Season in the Sudano-Sahelian zone of Cameroon (Far North and North Regions)
The adverse effects of climate change are significantly affecting Cameroon's socio-economic development sectors, making them increasingly vulnerable. In response, the National Observatory on Climate Change (NOCC/ONACC) has produced seasonal forecasts for the period from May to August 2026 for the Sudano-Sahelian agroecological zone. These forecasts have guided the development of the agricultural calendar for the 2026 cropping season in this zone, covering the Far North and North Regions.
Considering the current state of the global climate system and analyses of its potential influence on Cameroon's climate during May, June, July and August 2026, the following conditions are expected:
- A gradual onset of the rainy season from the:
- First to the second dekad of May 2026 (04 to 14 May 2026), in the Mayo Rey and Faro Divisions;
- Second and the third dekad of May 2026 (12 to 21 May 2026), in the Benoue, Mayo Louti, Mayo Tsanaga, and in the southern part of the Diamare Divisions;
- Third dekad of May to the first dekad of June 2026 (21 May to 01 June 2026), in the Mayo Kani Division, the Southern and Central parts of Diamare, as well as in the Mayo Sava and Mayo Danay Divisions;
- Second to the third dekad of June 2026 (12 to 22 June 2026), throughout the Logone et Chari Division and in the Northern parts of the Diamare, Mayo Danay, and Mayo Sava Divisions.
NB: There is a high probability of a dry spell or a temporary interruption of rainfall in many localities, approximately two to three weeks after the effective onset of the rainy season.
Based on the above, farmers are advised to begin sowing after observing at least three consecutive rainy days in their agricultural zone, particularly:
- From the first to the third dekad of May 2026 (07 to 17 May 2026), in the Mayo Rey and the Faro Divisions;
- Between the second and the third dekad of May 2026 (15 to 24 may 2026), in the Benoue, Mayo Louti, Mayo Tsanaga Divisions, and in the Southern part of the Diamare Division;
- From the third dekad of May to the first dekad of June 2026 (24 May to 04 June 2026), in the Mayo Kani Division, the Southern and Central parts of the Diamare Division, as well as in the Mayo Sava and Mayo Danay Division;
- From the second to the third dekad of June (15 to 25 June 2026), throughout the Logone et Chari and in the northern part of the Diamare Division, Mayo Danay and Mayo Sava Divisions.
