# LAUNCH OF THE PETER ESSOKA PRIZE FOR EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM
On Monday 9 March 2026, Cameroon willjoin the Commonwealth family of 56 States, to officially commemorate Commonwealth Day under the theme "Unlocking Opportunities Together for a Prosperous Commonwealth". The event is observed annually every second Monday of the month of March.
As part of commemorative activities earmarked to take place across the national territory, from Saturday 28 February to Monday 9 March 2026, the Ministry of External Relations is delighted to announce the launch of "The Peter Essoka Prize for Excellence in Journalism", a distinguished new award dedicated to recognising outstanding achievement in newscasting and animation on radio and television.
The Peter Essoka Prize has been established to honour and celebrate the dedication, integrity, and service of professional journalists who demonstrate excellence in their craft. The award will recognise four recipients annually — the best male and female newscasters and the best male and female animators, focusing on diction, articulation, and overall delivery. These should be individuals whose work equally exemplifies accuracy. professionalism, and commitment to informing the public.
In an era where trustworthy journalism is more essential than ever, the Peter Essoka Prize seeks to spotlight broadcasters who uphold the highest standards of the profession and contribute meaningfully to public discourse.
Each winner will receive a cash prize of five hundred thousand (500,000) cfa frs generously provided by the Ministry of External Relations, in partnership with Merdolf Sarl, a company committed to supporting journalism and media development.
The nomination procedure to determine the winners will take place via radio phone-ins and messages, during the annual Commonwealth Radio Quiz on Luncheon Date and The Mid-Morning Show (CRTV), from Monday 2 to Monday 9 March 2026, after which a jury, led by Mr. Peter Essoka will select the winners.
