REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON Peace-Work-Fatherland PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE
SECRETARIAT GENERAL
# PRESS RELEASE
The Secretary General at the Prime Minister’s Office wishes to inform national and international opinion that the Prime Minister, Head of Government H.E. Joseph DION NGUTE this Tuesday, 7 May 2019 at 10:00 a.m. presided over the Management Board of the National Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC).
Established on 30 November 2018 by the President of the Republic, the mission of this Committee is to organise, supervise and manage the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of ex-fighters of Boko Haram and armed groups in the North West and South West Regions who are willing to respond favourably to the peace appeal of the Head of State, by laying down their arms.
During today’s session, the Board listened to the activity report of the NDDRC presented by its National Coordinator. This report revealed that so far, the demobilisation and reintegration of ex-fighters is very encouraging. Regional NDDRC centres of Buea, Bamenda, and Mora are already operational and are receiving, each at its pace, returnees who are immediately taken care of. The Coordinator also presented the projected Action Plan for the 2019 fiscal year.
The Management Board then followed a statement from the Minister of Territorial Administration on the implementation of the Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Plan prescribed the Head of State for the North-West and South-West Regions, which comes to support the actions of the NDDRC on the field. It was revealed that internally displaced persons are regularly taken care of after their identification on the field by the committee in charge.
At the end of discussions which followed the statements, the Prime Minister instructed the intensification of actions related to the Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Plan and the acceleration of the deployment of Regional NDDRC Centres.
The Board was adjourned at noon.-
