State Dinner

TOAST BY H.E. PAUL BIYA, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON

Beijing, 5 September 2024

Let me begin by expressing my sincere gratitude for all the attention that my wife and I, and the delegation accompanying us, have received since our arrival in this beautiful city of Beijing. This dinner you are hosting in our honour on behalf of President XI JINPING is another demonstration of Chinese hospitality.

I appreciate the friendship between China and Cameroon and the quality of cooperation between our two countries.

I urge you to convey to His Excellency the President of the People's Republic of China my wish that this friendship and cooperation be further strengthened for the benefit of the Chinese and Cameroonian peoples.

Diplomatic relations between China and Cameroon, which date back some fifty years, have now reached a strategic level and are part of a fruitful, dynamic, pragmatic and mutually beneficial cooperation.

It could not be otherwise, given the excellent convergence of our views and aspirations.

Our two countries attach great importance to principles and values such as peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and respect for their sovereignty, promotion of peace and inclusive development, and shared prosperity among nations.

At a time when the Forum on China- Africa Cooperation is entering a new phase with the convergence of African and Chinese priorities, I hope that Africa- China relations in general and Cameroon- China relations in particular will further inspire the world, with concrete results that benefit all parties equally.

Our final wish is that these relations should go from strength to strength.
