The Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston ELOUNDOU ESSOMBA, hereby informs the national public opinion that during the night of Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 12:10 a.m, the Kribi Gas- fired Power Plant with an installed capacity of 216 Megawatts stopped injecting electricity into the Southern Interconnected Grid as a result of the fall of a pylon of the 225 kilovolt electricity transmission line stretching from Kribi to Edéa at a location known as Koukoué, in the Edéa 1 Subdivision.
This situation led to major disruptions in electricity supply in several localities of the Littoral, Centre, South, East, West, North-West and South-West Regions.
As regards the resumption of the injection of energy from the said power plant into the Southern Interconnected Grid, the Minister of Water and Energy has instructed the National Electricity Transmission Company (SONATREL) to restore the line without delay.
Pending the completion of the work in progress, the public electricity service will experience disruptions for the period from 24 to 29 April 2023 due to the temporary loss of production capacity caused by the above mentioned incident.
All the competent services of the State are mobilized to investigate on the causes behind the fall of this pylon.
While reassuring the population and economic operators of the Government's constant efforts to stabilize electricity supply in the Southern Interconnected Grid, the Minister of Water and Energy wishes to thank everyone for their patience and understanding. /-
