Tax revenue of the first quarter 2023
DGT exceeds its targets
Roger Athanase MEYONG ABATH, Director General of Taxation, chaired the monthly coordination meeting of central and devolved services of the tax administration on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. The objective of this meeting was to evaluate on the one hand the performance of revenue mobilization by the DGT services as of March 31, 2023 and on the other hand, the modernization reforms undertaken by the said administration.
NEWS
Record tax revenue mobilization
During the January-March 2023 period, the DGT revenue collected by the tax administration amounted to CFAF 818.5 billion out of a target of CFAF 761.5 billion. This implies an achievement rate of 107.5%. Compared to the first quarter of 2022, which yielded CFAF 714.4 billion, these revenues are up by CFAF +104.1 billion in absolute terms and +14.6% in relative terms.
- Non-oil tax revenues on the rise
With regard to non-oil tax revenues, CFAF 694.6 billion were collected
for the benefit of the RLAs and certain PEs
The good news continues! The collection of revenues for the Regional and Local Authorities (RLAs) and certain Public Entities (PEs) which amounted to CFAF 90.6 billion for the period January-March in 2023, on a target of CFAF 84.7 billion. Compared to revenues of the same period in 2022 which amounted to CFAF 74.4 billion, we observe CFAF 16.1 billion in absolute terms and +21.7% in relative terms.
An appreciable performance in oil tax revenues
during the first quarter of 2023 by various production units of the Tax Administration on a target of CFAF 676.8 billion, this represents an achievement rate of 102.6%. It should be noted that compared to the same quarter in 2022, when revenues amounted to CFAF 623.9 billion, revenues in the first quarter of 2023 increased by CFAF 70.7 billion in absolute terms and by +11.3% in relative terms.
- Good collection of resources
In terms of revenues from the Tax on oil Companies, CFAF 33.3 billion was collected during the first quarter of 2023 compared to CFAF 16.1 billion during the same period in 2022, an increase of CFAF 17.2 billion.
- Large tax balances
Regarding the 2022 tax balance returns and payments, 54,235 STR have been filed as at now for payments of CFAF 173.6 billion in budgetary share.
Based on the above, it can be said that the reign of Mr Roger Athanase
MEYONG ABATH began with positive nudge on the performance of the DGT. This can be explained by the consolidation modernization reforms undertaken on recent times, and the performance of new tax measures enshrined on the 2023 finance Law.
While congratulating the operational and coordination structures for these good results, the DGT asked them to stay focused and to work harder to achieve the tax revenue target of nearly CFAF 2,800 billion expected from the DGT by the end of 2023.
