L'unité nationale - notre unité nationale - si chèrement acquise, si jalousement préservée, doit rester la première de nos préoccupations. Cette unité est le préalable constant à toute œuvre de construction du Cameroun. Car cette unité, qui est celle d'une jeune nation, demeure exposée à des forces centrifuges ou menacée par des manœuvres de division qui ont pour noms le tribalisme, le népotisme, les discriminations de toutes sortes, l'exploitation ou la propagation de fausses nouvelles, la démoralisation, la dramatisation, la provocation ou l'intoxication. Nous devons par conséquent combattre ou prévenir ces maux par une vigilance et avec une détermination égales à notre profond attachement à la nation camerounaise, qui se veut une patrie une, indivisible et paisible.

National unity – our national unity – which has been achieved at a great price and which has been jealously preserved should remain one of our major concerns. Because this unity is the constant pre-condition for the entire task of building Cameroon. Because, this unity which is that of a young Nation remains fragile and is exposed to outside forces or threatened by manoeuvres of disintegration or division be they tribalism, nepotism, discrimination in all forms, the use or spreading of false rumours, demoralisation, dramatization, provocation or false propaganda. Consequently, we have to fight or check these evils with a determination commensurate with our deep attachment to the Cameroonian Nation which is united, indivisible and peaceful Fatherland.
