# FOREWORD
As part of the sovereign missions of the Directorate of Agricultural Surveys and Statistics (DESA), several activities have been undertaken, including the Agricultural Market Information System (SIM); the Food Balance Sheet; the Pilot Annual Agricultural Survey (EAAP), the Cross-Border Agricultural Products Information System (SIFT) and the Agricultural Products Price Index (IPPA).
This document entitled 'Baseline study on fertilizers and plant protection products in the cocoa and coffee sectors' is one of DESA's publications and present recent developments in trade in these inputs, which are the main factors in boosting agricultural production and productivity.
From February to March 2022, data collection was conducted from stakeholders in the fertilizer and plant protection products of the cocoa and coffee sub-sectors in the Centre, East, Littoral, West and South regions.
The survey covered three reference years: 2019, 2020 and 2021. This report provides key information on volumes acquired and sold, purchase and sale prices, stock availability, and challenges faced by players in this sub-sector.
The report, which is produced with funding from the Cocoa and Coffee Sub-Sectors Development Fund (FODECC) and the technical assistance from the European Union, is a tool to back up decision-making, planning and investment in these strategic sub-sectors.
I extend my gratitude to the staff of all stakeholders without whom this important release would not have taken place.
