The Minister of Public Health hereby announces that a fifth case of COVID-19 has just been recorded on the national territory involving a 46-year old woman living in Strasbourg, France who arrived in Cameroon on 3 March. The patient is currently receiving proper treatment.
The Minister of Public Health calls on the population to further increase vigilance and follow the hygiene rules below :
- Regularly wash hands with running water and soap or use an alcohol-based solution
- Cover nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with tissue or flexed elbow
- Avoid close contact with anyone presenting with flu-like symptoms or with wild or farm animals
- Thoroughly cook meat and other foods before eating them.
Moreover, any person who travelled out of Cameroon or had been in contact with a traveller from countries which reported COVID-19 cases, and presenting with flu-like symptoms such as runny nose, cough and/or fever should immediately dial 1510 to receive adequate treatment. Once more, the Minister hereby calls upon all travellers from countries at risk and their respective families to behave in a more responsible manner in order to facilitate the work of the response mechanism and protect the community. They are advised to self-quarantine for 14 days before resuming any activity or coming into contact with people.
While commending health care professionals for their selflessness and determination, The Minister of Public Health urges all community stakeholders to stay mobilized in facing COVID-19. /-
