# MINADER fertile ground for bilingualism

The enthusiasm emerged after the very first mission of the NCPBM to all ministries to assess the practice of bilingualism in 2017. MINADER caught the flame since then, instituted every Wednesday as bilingualism Day and set aside the first Friday of February each year, to celebrate Bilingualism in the ministry.

The 2022 edition was commemorated on the 4th of February 2022 under the theme “Bilingualism: driving force behind effective and targeted extension for a prosperous agricultural sector in Cameroon.”

While presiding over the colourful ceremony, the Minister of MINADER, Gabriel MBAIROBE, stated that bilingualism reinforces social cohesion and MINADER has placed official bilingualism at the heart of the agricultural revolution for an emerging Cameroon by 2035. The bilingualism day at MINADER, officials say, gives them an opportunity to showcase measures taken by

MINADER to improve bilingualism.

As of 2022, it was unveiled that MINADER has made commendable strides in the practice of bilingualism within its central and external services. Glaring among them are: the purchase of the 10-level self-training language software “Tell Me More” and the systematic training of central and external services staff in Pilot Linguistic Centres, with some 350 personnel trained between 2020 and 2021. This move, officials claim, is to create bilingualism ambassadors outside the ministry. It was also announced that over 106 documents were translated in 2021 and all speeches made by the Minister are bilingual.

Representing the President of the NCPBM during the occasion, Madam MBAPPE TICKY Agnes, Member of the NCPBM, lauded all efforts and measures put in place by MINADER to encourage the promotion of bilingualism. She equally urged the personnel to make the handbook of the law on the promotion of official languages, their bedside book.

According to the Minister of MINADER, farmers are an important portion of our population and their access to essential information is paramount. Hence his ministry has put in place necessary mechanisms to enhance the practice of effective bilingualism in MINADER.

To encourage and guide MINADER in its efforts to promote bilingualism, is the Yaoundé Pilot Linguistic Center, whose officials marked their presence during the ceremony, with a comprehensive presentation on language training programs offered at the center.
