CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST N°00001/ASMI/SONAMINES/GM OF 20 JAN 2023
FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF A CONSULTANT IN VIEW OF THE IDENTIFICATION AND STRUCTURING OF GEOLOGICAL, MINING AND RELATED SERVICES PROVIDED BY SONAMINES
Financing: SONAMINES's budget for the 2023 financial year.
# 1. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE
The Cameroonian mining sector is rightly considered one of the major pillars of the national economy. This sector draws its strength from the important mining and geological wealth which includes several deposits of economic interest and world class mineral resources. In order to develop this sector, which is still in its early stages, several players are at work or in the process of setting up, but often lack the expertise and technical equipment necessary to carry out their activities.
To effectively tackle this shortcoming, they resort to external expertise through dedicated structures that will now have to obtain approval from the Ministry in charge of Mines, as per Order No. 00375/A/MINMIDT/SG/DG/DAJ/CR of 18 October 2022, on the provision of geological and mining services, with a view to carrying out research work. So far, this type of contract has been awarded to a handful of companies that are not approved under the terms of the aforementioned order.
To this end, SONAMINES aims to seize this opportunity to position itself not only as a leader in this field, but equally as a reference in the provision of technical assistance and consulting services in the geological and mining sector, both nationally and sub-regionally.
Thus, the creation of a component of SONAMINES dedicated to the provision of such services, would be justified by the opportunity to expand its use in the geological and mining sector among others, the diversification of its income-generating activities in view of its autonomy in the short term and the privilege to position itself as the expertise-provider par excellence.
# 2. PURPOSE
The purpose of this Call for Expressions of Interest (ASMI) is the pre-selection of a Consultant, Firm or Engineering Office that will outline the scope of the opportunity and all aspects related to the feasibility of setting up a component of SONAMINES in charge of providing geological, mining and related services.
# 3. PARTICIPATION AND ORIGIN
Participation in this Call is open to Firms or Engineering Offices established in Cameroon, composed of experts with proven knowledge in the geological, mining and related fields, as well as the development of related procedures over the last 10 years.
# 4. NATURE OF SERVICES
The Consultant, Firm or Engineering Office is expected to:
- Identify and describe the various services that can be provided;
- Draw up a marketing strategy;
