1. Project Overview
The Government of the Republic of Cameroon plans to reconstruct the Douala - Yaounde - Bertoua - Garoua Boulai section of the Douala - Bangui corridor with support from several Technical and Financial Partners (TFPs), including the WB, the IsDB, the AFD, the EU and the EIB. The purpose of the project is to enhance the functionality of the Douala - Bangui Corridor. Its development is expected to generate economic benefits by reducing vehicle operating costs and increasing the number of trips thanks to shorter journey times. Furthermore, the project aims to open up the region or localities it serves, improve the living conditions of the populations of the said localities while promoting economic development at local and regional levels. The programme is due to be implemented by the Ministry of Public Works, the Project Owner. The related workshop will focus on Phase 1 of the programme, which includes: (i) rehabilitation of the road infrastructure and improvement of road safety along the Dibamba Bridge - Yaounde section, including the construction of a bridge over the Dibamba River; (ii) construction of two high-performance weighing stations in Mbankomo and Edea; (iii) control and supervision of the related works; and (iv) establishment of a sustainable maintenance mechanism for the Yaounde - Bonis - Bertoua - Garoua-Boulai section of the corridor, alongside the execution of reinforcement maintenance works on the most damaged stretches. Moreover, technical studies for the Yaounde - Bonis - Bertoua - Garoua-Boulai road will be conducted.
