Annex III: List of Letters of Appeal by the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Reprisals in Africa

This document is an annex listing urgent appeal letters sent by the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Reprisals in Africa to various African heads of state. Each entry includes the state, date of the letter, a brief description of the issue, and the state's response status. The letters address arbitrary detentions, assassinations, harassment, and other human rights violations against defenders. The document covers appeals from November 2019 to August 2020.

Abdelkader Bensalah, former Interim Head of State of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, from the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Reprisals in Africa, regarding the arbitrary arrest of Mr. Abdelouahab Fersaoui and several members of the RAJ.On 3^{rd} January 2020, the Algerian Government sent a response to the Commission.
3. Mozambique2 December 2019Letter of Urgent Appeal to H.E. Filipe Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique, from the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Reprisals in Africa, regarding the assassination of the activist, Dr. Anastácio Matavel, and the restrictions on civic space during the pre-election period.The State is yet to respond.
4. Egypt19 December 2019Letter of Urgent Appeal to H.E. Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, from the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Reprisals in Africa, regarding reprisals against a group of lawyers for their involvement in the defence of human rights in Egypt.The State is yet to respond.

Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, from the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Reprisals in Africa, regarding the arbitrary arrest and pre-trial detention of Mr. Halim Feddal.The State is yet to respond.
6. Democratic Republic of Congo17 January 2020Joint Letter of Urgent Appeal to H.E.
