# Turn the Chief's Words into Action!
Martin BELINGA EBOUTOU
Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic
When then, Athenians, when will you do your duty?" This beautiful interpellative formulation of Demosthenes, the eloquent master of ancient times, retains its freshness, even today, to commit men to courageous action, in spite of their daily challenges.
And I think I hear President Paul BIYA, like Demosthenes once did, urge his people: what then do you await, sons and daughters of Cameroon, to rid yourselves of the often decried inertia which hinders our march towards progress? When shall you fully do your duty? What are we waiting for to take action, by accomplishing our duties everyday, with love for country, commitment, generosity and a sense of the common good, at the service of the nation?
The course is carefully charted out and areas of priority actions explained...
Within a few weeks, the Presidential word was, for this purpose, deployed with strength and relevance on many solemn occasions: first, on 31 December 2015, on the eve of the new year; five days later in response to the wishes of the diplomatic corps accredited to Yaoundé; soon after, on the occasion of the visit to Cameroon of Madame Christine LAGARDE, the Managing Director of the International
Monetary Fund; and most recently, on 10 February 2016, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the National Youth Day.
On these occasions, the Head of State, as the true captain of the ship Cameroon, clearly recalled the course set: emergence in 2035. He reiterated the major strategic choices of the nation, redefined priority sectors of intervention, prescribed required good attitudes, those that will permit each and every one to act more effectively.
Audacity, creativity, economic patriotism, results oriented, harmonious intergenerational fusion, etc. Each key player in national life, individual or institutional, public or private, each player should be concerned, and each, in his inner heart can best identify his besetting weakness, in order to better depart from it, and to more effectively meet the expected goals.
