COMMUNIQUÉ
ON THE ORGANIZATION OF PRIVATE TRAINING CLASSES FOR PUPIL ADVOCATES
The President of the Cameroon Bar Association hereby informs Advocates, Pupil Advocates and the general public that the attention of the Bar has been drawn to the proliferation of private training classes, paid and/or unpaid, organized for Pupil Advocates in purported preparation for their end-of-pupilage examinations.
The President of the Bar Association emphatically reminds everyone that the training of Pupil Advocates is a strictly regulated process, governed by law and placed under the supervision of the Bar President, as provided for in Articles 12(2) and 18 of Ministerial Decision No. 41/DPJ/SG/MJ of 12 April 2005 on the Homologation and Publication of the Internal Regulations of the Cameroon Bar, read in conjunction with Section 49 of Law No. 90/059 of 19 December 1990 to Organize Practice at the Bar.
Unlike the Bar Entrance Examination, which is open to candidates who are not yet members of the Bar and for which any individual(s) may freely organize preparatory classes, the training of Pupil Advocates is an internal professional training process organized and supervised by the Cameroon Bar Association, in accordance with the rules governing the profession.
Consequently, no private training class or program for Pupil Advocates shall be organized by any person or entity without the prior express authorization of the Bar President. Any Pupil Advocate
participating in such unauthorized training shall do so at his or her own risk and responsibility.
The Bar President enjoins all Advocates and Pupil Advocates to strictly comply with these provisions of the laws governing the training of Pupil Advocates at the Cameroon Bar.
The Cameroon Bar Association remains committed to authorizing and/or partnering with any person or structure interested in assisting with the training of young Advocates, provided that such assistance is carried out in accordance with the law.
