- Stakeholders validate key reforms to professionalise commercial motorbike sector
According to an article published by the Newspaper "The Guadian Post", stakeholders in the urban development drive to professionalise the commercial motorbike sector have validated to modernise one of the most used means of the transport in the city of Douala. This was on the sideline of activities of a recent workshop on diagnostic study of the commercial motorbike sector. It was jointly organised by the International Finance Corporation IFC, a member of the World Bank Group and the Douala City Council. During the opening ceremony, Dr Roger Njitchoua, First Deputy Mayor said; with 61% of the transport modal share, motorcycle taxis play a central role in urban mobility in Douala, employing more than 100,000 riders. He added that though the sector builds the economy, the sector has generated a lot of disorder, leading to an increase in insecurity rate in the economic capital. The study conducted by IFC, the Deputy Mayor said, proposes concrete solutions such as; supervision of operators through concessions to register public transport entities, regulatory reforms to access permits and training, digitalisation of the sector to improve transparency and tax collection, strengthen security measures amongst others will help modernise the sector.
- Government to completely cut fuel subsidies after 2026
Still in the columns of "The Guardian Post", is an analyse of the decision to cut fuel subsidies from 263 billion FCFA in the 2024 State, to just about 15 billion in 2025, is a strong indication that the government of Cameroon is gradually move to completely phase out fuel subsidies after 2026. According to the article, this is as a result of "Fitch solutions". In a report on the economy released in February 2025, the firm state that fuel prices at the pump will remain stable throughout the year, largely due to the upcoming presidential election. It is how ever important to note that Cameroon's 2025 Finance Law does not include a reduction in fuel subsidies.
- Cameroon, AFDB Examines Strategic Initiatives
Prime Minister Head of Government Josphe Dion Ngute yesterday held discussions with the Acting Director of the African Development Bank for Central Africa, Salomane Kone, "Cameroon Tribune" reports. The African Development Bank has a ten-year strategy that seeks to promote a more integrated, prosperous and resilient continent. With Cameroon being a strategic partner of the financial institution, there are thus development projects financed by the institution. Discussions between the two officials focused on the transformation of the lives of the population by improving the energy, agriculture and transport sector. The financial expert noted that there was the signature of two loan agreements with cameroonian ministers in the morning of March 19,2025 for the construction of the Ngaoundéré-Garoua and the Douala-N'Djamena roads.
