# FOREWORD
As part of the activities of the General Census of Agriculture and Livestock (GCAL) instituted by Presidential Decree No. 2015/292 of 29 June 2015, the Government of the Republic of Cameroon is pleased to present Volume 1 of the community module. This census comes more than thirty (30) years after the last of its kind carried out in 1984/1985 whose data are already obsolete. Its objective is to provide the Government and rural sector stakeholders with reliable and up-to-date data to meet the planning, monitoring and evaluation needs of initiatives for the development of the agropastoral and aquaculture subsectors.
The particularity of the GCAL is that it is carried out according to the modular approach of the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture (WPCA) 2020 recommended by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It consists of a community module, a core module, a complementary module and thematic modules.
In addition to the agricultural households targeted by the previous census, the GCAL also covers households whose main activities relate to livestock and/or aquaculture.
Finally, it should be noted that this census operation is carried out by exhaustive enumeration of agropastoral and aquaculture farms.
The data collection of the community module was coupled with the census mapping that was carried out in the field between 2016 and 2017, in conjunction with the mapping activities of the fourth General Population and Housing Census (4th GPHC). This collection took place in each village using modern digital tools.
After this exercise, a verification and validation of the data were carried out with the participation of the competent administrations and institutions concerned, under the auspices of FAO.
This volume has therefore been elaborated on the basis of these data, which are as close as possible to the reality in order to offer a better knowledge of the villages. Nevertheless, it should be noted that some identified villages were not collected because of insecurity.
The analyses that are made below focus on the villages of Cameroon where agricultural, livestock and aquaculture activities are mainly practiced. These analyses will provide a better understanding of the results of the core module that will provide a detailed description of agropastoral and aquaculture farms.
This first volume of the GCAL includes two (02) books:
- Book 1: the Statistical tables;
- Book 2: the Analysis report.
After the results of the community module, the publications of the other modules will follow.
